President’s Message for May 2010
As we get ready for our end-of-the year meeting at Riderwood, I greet you with mixed emotions.  I will be resigning my duties as your president to allow the time to perform my duties as the president of Maryland Retired School Personnel Association.  You are, however, in good hands!  With Carl Lancaster as your leader, you will be well informed and well represented.  Carl has a long history as a trusted leader for the educational personnel in our country and the state of Maryland.

You are probably aware, by now, that we had a successful year with our state legislature.  We were able to hold on to our benefits in this era of really tight money.  Our Prince George’s County legislatures listened to us and responded to our concerns.  We thank Jim Proctor for sponsoring a bill for us that will allow MRSPA to send out information to new retirees that will give them information about how they can join our associations.  With increased membership, we hope to be even more effective.

The MRSPA annual meeting is on May 11th in Glen Burnie.  We have 19 delegates attending this year and one of our delegates is the candidate for MRSPA Secretary.  Jannette Wundrow will be elected and installed that day and I am sure she will be the very best secretary ever!

Our annual meeting will be on the 26th.  We have many members there and hope that, by taking our meeting to them, we will be able to see old friends that have been unable to attend other meetings.  We thank Charlie Hudson for sponsoring us for the day.  The details are in the May issue of Echoes that is arriving at your homes as I write this.  We have arranged to have a shuttle bus at the parking lot to take you to the luncheon site.  The shuttle will run before and after the meeting.  We urge you to arrive on time so that you can take advantage of the shuttle.  We will have signs – or people – to help you.  For directions to Riderwood , go to http://riderwood.com.  We are being helped there by Scarlette Coleman and her phone number is 301 628 3620.  If you need more help, go to our website (www.pgpsra.org) and send us a note.

You will be entertained by a group from Highpoint High School (arranged by John Sisson).  We will be installing officers.  And, of course, we will be updating you on all that is happening.  So, send in your checks and I’ll see you there!!
