President’s Message for February 2010

I have great news!  We have a website!!  It’s still in the set-up stage and we have a lot to learn about things….but, it is there.  We hope to be able to link you to other sites that are important to us and to be able to disseminate information to you quickly.  We also hope that this will allow you all to better communicate your concerns, questions and other thoughts to us.

If you know members who have not yet given us their email address for list serve, let them know of this new way of communicating.  They may feel more comfortable with this mode of operation and be able to increase their involvement in PGPSRA.  If you know people who might want to join our association, share this site with them.  In the near future, we should have membership information here.  Meanwhile, as soon as the link to MRSPA is operable, they can go there for membership sign-up information.  We are stronger with many!

Please check out the website at www.PGPSRA.org.

With that thought in mind, the Maryland Legislature is in session.   We have been to Annapolis to monitor legislation that impacts us as retirees.  So far, things are looking about as good as possible and we seem to be holding our own.  Do let us know if you have issues that you are concerned about.  You do want to check out the legislative information in Echoes and the MRSPA Newsletter.  Another source of information is the United Seniors of Maryland website (http://wwwunitedseniors.net)

We were pleased to have Dr. William Hite, Jr., Superintendent of Prince George’s County Schools visit with us at our January Meeting.  He had many positive things to say about our schools, while being very practical about the realities of the finances that the system is dealing with at this time.  We appreciate his taking the time to talk with us.

Enjoying the snow…….staying warm…..wishing you the best.

bonnie
